Havelock — officially Swaraj Dweep — is the island most people picture when they dream of the Andamans: powder-white sand at Radhanagar, water that shifts from glass to turquoise, and reefs a short boat ride away. It's where we send every first-timer, and the island our own families picnic on.
It's busier than Neil but never crowded by mainland standards. Two or three nights is the sweet spot — enough for the big beaches, a dive and one slow morning you'll remember all year.
How to reach
- Private catamarans (Nautika, Makruzz) from Port Blair take 90–120 minutes; fares run ₹1,150–₹1,700 per person by class.
- Morning sailings (roughly 6:00–8:00 AM slots) get you to Radhanagar by lunch — book these first in season.
- The government ferry is cheaper (₹500–₹800) but slower and hard to book in peak months.
- From Havelock jetty, autos and cabs reach most resorts in 10–25 minutes; scooter rentals cost about ₹400–₹500 a day.
Top things to do
Radhanagar Beach (Beach No. 7)
The famous one — swim in the lifeguard-flagged zone and stay for sunset; the beach clears soon after.
Elephant Beach
A 20-minute boat hop for the islands' easiest snorkelling and shore scuba over living coral.
Kala Pathar Beach
Black rocks, quiet sand and the island's best sunrise — go before breakfast.
Scuba diving
Intro shore dives from ₹3,500–₹4,500 with certified instructors; no swimming experience needed.
Bioluminescent kayaking
On new-moon nights the mangrove water glows — 1.5–2 hour guided paddles, around ₹3,000–₹3,500.
