Diglipur is where the Andamans run out of tourists. The reward for the long road north: Ross & Smith — twin islands joined by a bar of white sand you walk across at low tide — plus turtle-nesting beaches, cave systems and Saddle Peak, the highest point in the archipelago.
This is not a day trip. Plan 2–3 nights as an extension on a longer itinerary, and treat the journey as part of the adventure.
How to reach
- Around 300 km north of Port Blair on the Andaman Trunk Road — 9–12 hours by road, usually broken at Rangat or Mayabunder.
- A government ferry also connects Port Blair to Diglipur; schedules vary, so we confirm sailings before building it into an itinerary.
- Local travel is by hired car or scooter; Kalipur beach and the Ross & Smith boat point are 20–30 minutes from town.
Top things to do
Ross & Smith Islands
Twin islands joined by a walkable sandbar at low tide — arguably the most beautiful spot in the Andamans.
Turtle nesting at Kalipur
December–February nights, giant leatherbacks and olive ridleys haul up to nest — watch with the forest department, never with torches.
Saddle Peak trek
A 730 m forest climb to the archipelago's highest point — start early, carry 2 litres of water per person.
Alfred Caves
Narrow limestone caves alive with swiftlets — a guide is mandatory and worth it.
